Master Hybrid
Two-Year Master in Studio Arts Program
Program Description and Delivery Mode:
This program is delivered in a mixed format: online training segment followed by a in-person 16-weeks intensive segment in Florence, Italy annually.
The Master Program offers an advanced and rigorous course of study centred on the human figure in both drawing and painting, with a particular emphasis on the development of complex compositional thinking. Special attention is devoted to multi-figure compositions that integrate interior and exterior settings, as well as to the sophisticated treatment of visual narrative, body language, movement, gesture, and emotional expression.
Conceived for students who have already acquired a strong academic foundation in the visual arts, this program is intended for those seeking to refine their artistic excellence at a professional level and to prepare for future roles as instructors within academies, ateliers, and other institutions dedicated to serious artistic training.
The duration of the program is two years. Throughout this period, students engage in an intensive curriculum designed to provide the practical, theoretical, and pedagogical competencies required for high-level professional practice and effective teaching. The principal areas of study include painting, drawing, composition, plein-air painting, and copy practice, complemented by a broader range of disciplines essential to advanced artistic formation.
A distinctive feature of the Master Program is its art teaching practice, through which students work closely with academy professors during practical classes and studio instruction. This supervised experience is supported by regular individual colloquia, during which each student receives critical feedback on teaching performance, methodological development, and professional growth.
Admission to the Master Program is determined primarily by the applicant’s artistic level rather than by prior academic credentials alone. The program is open both to students who have successfully completed the Three-Year Diploma in Visual Arts at New Renaissance and to applicants holding a BA in Visual Arts from other institutions. In all cases, candidates must demonstrate a high level of academic proficiency in classical drawing and painting.
All applications are reviewed by the Board of Professors, which determines eligibility on the basis of the submitted portfolio. For detailed information regarding portfolio requirements, applicants are advised to contact the Admissions Office directly.
